Tell your Scottish parliament candidate to oppose CETA and TTIP!
The Scottish Parliament elections take place on May 5 this year. Over the next few months, candidates will be campaigning to win your vote on election day.
Public opposition to trade deals like TTIP and CETA is growing almost daily across Scotland, as people find out how much power they will give to big business as the expense of democracy. Can you help us to let election candidates in your area know why these deals must be stopped, and call on them to oppose them if they are elected?
The Scotland Against TTIP coalition (which we’re a member of) has put together a pledge for parliamentary candidates to sign opposing toxic trade deals. Can you help get your local candidates to sign the pledge?
Take part in the e-action on the Scotland Against TTIP coalition website here, and keep the pressure on our Scottish political parties to speak out against these toxic trade deals.
We are collecting photos of the candidates who have signed the pledge to show clearly who will stand up for Scottish democracy and oppose TTIP and CETA.

Here’s the wording of the pledge that we’re calling on election candidates to sign up to:
As a candidate for the Scottish Parliament elections, and given the importance of this issue for Scotland, I’m against TTIP, CETA and other trade agreements like them, because:
- A transfer of power on this scale from citizens and democratically elected governments to corporations is undemocratic
- Governments should not fear legal action in secret courts for decisions that they make in the public interest
- By providing corporations with a separate legal arena they destroy the constitutional principal that we are all equal in the eyes of the law
- They are a serious threat to public services, potentially leading to further privatisation and preventing future governments bringing them back into public hands
- They threaten to lower hard won regulations and standards on workers’ rights, human rights, health and safety, the environment and food safety
- More than 3 million citizens across Europe have signed a petition opposing TTIP and CETA.
I pledge to oppose TTIP, CETA and other trade agreements like them, if elected.
Scotland Against TTIP is a coalition of trade unions, NGOs and local activists in Scotland who are working together to stop TTIP and CETA. Global Justice Now is a founding member.
