Our council

Our council

Our council is a voluntary body elected by the members to oversee the governance of the organisation. Council signs off our annual budget and works with staff on strategy. Council’s executive committee (*) is responsible for financial monitoring and staffing matters. The term of the current council is June 2024 to June 2027.

Maggie Mason*
(chair)
Maggie is a retired town planner and a leading figure in the fight against a new coal mine in Cumbria as part of South Lakes Action on Climate Change. She was also a longstanding member of Global Justice South Lakes.

Natalia Guidorzi* (treasurer)
Natalia is an experienced grants fundraiser with organisations including War on Want, Global Witness and the Fund for Global Human Rights. She was also the principal fundraiser for the COP26 people’s summit and national mobilisation in Glasgow in 2021.

Sally Brooks* (national secretary)
Sally is an honorary research fellow at the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre at the University of York. She is a trade justice activist and a founding member of Global Justice York.

Christine Thompson (vice-chair)
Christine is an active member of Global Justice Richmond and Kingston. She is a former staff member of Christian Aid, a committee member of London Jubilee 2000, and has lived and taught extensively in Africa and the South Pacific.

Victor Anderson
Victor Anderson has worked as a researcher in Parliament and an economist for NGOs and in Whitehall, and was an elected member of the London Assembly. He lives in Brighton.

Nick Anim
Nick is an academic researcher focused on contemporary global social movements and the challenges of building solidarity across differences. He is active with Global Justice Now and other activist groups including Transition Town Brixton.

Ludovico Caminati Engström
Ludo is a member of our youth network (Global Justice Youth) and was one of group of student activists who established Global Justice Stirling at the university. Originally from Genoa, he’s currently resident in Glasgow where he has been involved in Palestine solidarity work.

Aisha Dodwell
Aisha is the head of advocacy, policy and campaigns at CAFOD, and has previously worked as an adviser on international development to the Labour shadow cabinet. Her other campaigning roles include a stint at Global Justice Now.

Mohammed Elnaiem*
Mohammed is the founding director of the Decolonial Centre, a political education project of the Pluto Educational Trust. He has been involved in the struggle for democracy in Sudan, and is now based in St Albans.

Steve Jackson*
Steve has been active in Global Justice Youth since 2019 and was recently a full-time elected officer at the University of Sussex students’ union. He has also worked in the third sector, and been involved in migrant justice campaigning.

Naveed Somani
Naveed is an evaluation and strategy professional who has worked for organisations including Amnesty International UK and Liberty. He has organised on migrant and climate justice, as well as on political education projects such as The World Transformed (TWT).

Mary Steiner
Mary is the group coordinator and longtime activist with Global Justice Nottingham. She has also convened and chaired Nottinghamshire Climate Justice Coalition.
