Rise Up Against TTIP... and keep rising!

13 October 2015

The fightback against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) - an extremely dangerous trade deal being negotiated by the EU and the US - is undoubtedly building steam, but we must further step up our efforts to raise awareness, organise and mobilise.

A group of concerned Scottish citizens from constituencies across Scotland will next week travel to Westminster to put pressure on Scottish MPs to oppose controversial trade deals between Europe, the US and Canada (TTIP and CETA).

A rally against TTIP, the controversial free trade deal between the USA and the EU is marking a year of sustained campaigning against the deal from activists, trade unions, consumer watch dogs and NGOs across Europe.

Join Students Against TTIP for a fun and creative action against TTIP - the EU-US trade deal that threatens the environment, public services and democracy itself.

Over three million signatures from across Europe calling for TTIP to be scrapped were submitted to representatives of the European Commission in London at 11.30 am this morning, in the shadow of a 6 metre high inflatable TTIP Trojan Horse. The Trojan Horse symbolised that while TTIP is presented as a 'trade deal,' critics argue that it actually constitutes an unprecedented corporate power grab. Over 500,000 of the sgnatures that were submitted came from people who were resident in the UK.

05 October 2015

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the biggest trade deal in a generation and part of the same 'new generation' of trade deals as TTIP. Its primary purpose is to rewrite global economic rules in favour of capital. But it’s not over and we shouldn’t lose hope.

A Europe-wide petition calling for a halt to the trade deals being negotiated between the EU and the USA and Canada has reached three million signatures in the space of one year.

Big Tobacco lost to Australia over plain packaging - but that doesn't mean that corporate courts 'work'

Late last year tobacco company Philip Morris International’s (PMI) attempted to sue the Australian government for billions over the introduction of plain packing of cigarettes. This court case happened in a secretive court system, just like the one that they are trying to introduce in the EU-USA trade deal, TTIP.
