Glasgow calling: AGM, activist conference and cultural event, Saturday 13 June
A reminder that our AGM and activist conference, Shifting Ground, are taking place in Glasgow on Saturday 13 June. We’ve also got an evening event, Shifting Sounds, featuring live poetry and music, plus an exclusive excerpt from the new film Hip-Hop Revolucion, about Venezuela’s hip-hop school’s movement.
Following our relaunch conference in February, this is our biggest day of the year, and looks set to be a rich and varied day. For more info and to book your places, see information about the different events here.
Take Back Our World festival, 17-19 July

We’re very excited to announce a new event – the Take Back Our World festival, from July 17-19 (with coaches returning on 20 July). This is an opportunity for us to bring political questions, culture and creativity together over the course of a weekend, set in the beautiful natural surroundings of Tapeley Park (which comes complete with a wood, a permaculture garden, and is in walking distance to the sea).
It’s partly a result of our desire to attract more young people to our network, so we’re co-organising the event with Students against TTIP, a network of young activists we’ve been working with over the last few months. However, it’s open to all and it’d be great to see as many Global Justice Now group members and activists there as can make it.
Speakers currently confirmed (with more to come):
- Molly Scott Cato MEP (Green Party)
- Noel Douglas, artist, designer, activist, part of Occupy Design.
- Jody Boenhert, graphic designer, activist, researcher and director of EcoLabs
- Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now
- Activists from the Free University of London and Brick Lane Debates
We’ve also got some live music lined up, including the DJ Tudor Lion and band Natural Curriculum, and expect plenty more to come. Updates will be posted on this Facebook page.

There are several ticket options:
- Travel & Camping: Coach from London, Leeds or Manchester – £50 (£45 early bird ticket available until 3 June)
- Travel & Camping: Coach from Bristol – £40
- Camping (no travel): £25
- Weekend ticket (no camping): £15
- Day ticket: £10
Coaches will arrive early on Friday evening and leave on the morning of Monday 20 July.
N.B. Early bird tickets are available until Monday 8 June – £5 off all tickets.

Food campaign update
On 3 June, there will be a Leadership Council meeting on the New Alliance. To coincide with the meeting, we have been working with international allies to co-ordinate a global statement calling for an end to the New Alliance. This statement will be released next week and we will be launching an e-action to amplify the impact of the statement.
On 7-8 June there will be a G7 leaders summit in Germany and we will also be launching our new short video on the threat to seeds in Ghana in the lead up to the meeting.
