Trade campaign update for Scottish activists
Type: Campaign briefings
Date: 27 August 2018
Campaigns: Trade
On 5 September we’ll be donning our chicken costumes, and the masks of our Tory government and their cronies (see pic) to welcome the trade minister George Hollingbery to Holyrood. Hollingbery is giving evidence to the finance and constitution committee about the trade bill. Find out more about our plans for the day, and how you can get involved in our latest trade update for Scottish activists.
Meanwhile, at Westminster, the trade bill has been voted through but Caroline Lucas’s amendments, that would have ensured proper scrutiny of future trade deals, were rejected. Now the bill moves to the House of Lords, so campaigners are battling to win the ears of the peers over the next couple of months. We’ll also be pushing for amendments to give devolved institutions a say too. Can an undemocratic institution like the House of Lords win us trade democracy? We hope so!
Read on for all the latest news on the trade bill and future trade deals, and how you can get involved in the campaign in Scotland.
