Coming to the UN climate summit in Glasgow (COP26)

Mobilising in Glasgow

As well as being an important space to protest the lack of government action on climate change, and call fossil fuel corporations to account, the UN climate summit (COP26) in Glasgow is a great opportunity to meet fellow activists, take action and learn from each other.

We want to make it as easy as possible for Global Justice Now members and supporters to come to COP26 in Glasgow.

To this end, from Thursday 4 November to Monday 8 November we are offering some subsidies on travel to the city plus accommodation, an activist space on the Thursday evening and Friday all day, and a chance to protest together.

The offers in more detail:

Travel

We are offering to subsidise your travel by public transport to Glasgow from another part of the UK.

For return tickets by bus or train costing £120 or less: you will need to pay the first £35 but we can subsidise the rest.

For return tickets by bus or train over £120: we will pay £85 towards you ticket. You will need to pay the rest.

You will have to arrange the subsidy with us in advance of booking your tickets.

Please note that we have a limited number of subsidies to offer, and they will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Alternatively, we’ve made a small group booking already for those travelling from London (leaving Thursday afternoon and returning Monday afternoon) – these will also cost £35.

Accommodation

We have booked some dormitory beds in a hostel in the centre of Glasgow from the evening of Thursday 4 till the morning of Monday 8 November (4 nights). These are available to GJN supporters for £80 for all four nights, a significant reduction on the full cost. You can stay fewer nights, but we’ll still need to charge £80.

We also have some crash space available at a church in Rutherglen, just outside Glasgow which is a 10 minute train ride away from the centre of Glasgow. This will also need to be booked with us in advance. You will need to provide your own bedding, but it is completely free of charge.

Homestay: The COP26 coalition have also set up a website with Air B’n’B type accommodation for people to book space in local people’s homes during COP26. Prices vary but some are offering a room in their house for free – though the website asks for a small fee to book. Visit the homestay website

Activist space

We have booked a venue in the centre of Glasgow. This will be a space for orientation, meeting fellow Global Justice Now and Attac comrades, making plans and placards together. We should also be able to provide some food, and teas and coffees will be available.

Come meet us!
