REACTION: Labour’s life sciences plan risks giving in to Big Pharma demands

Date: 30 January 2024
Campaigns: Pharma

Responding to Labour’s proposed life sciences plan, Tim Bierley, pharmaceuticals campaign manager at Global Justice Now said:

This plan risks simply giving in to big pharma demands to weaken regulations, raise pricing and give away access to data. Pharmaceutical corporations already get a great deal out of the UK, with many drugs developed from public funding and huge support from the NHS on clinical trials.

Instead of proposing to help boost their profit margins even more, Labour should instead look to strengthen the hand of public institutions to make sure the NHS is getting value for money for medicines and pharma companies.”
