In response to further delays to the pandemic treaty negotiations, Tim Bierley, pharmaceuticals campaign manager at Global Justice Now said:

We know that big pharma’s monopolies limited production, ignored the global south, and cost countless lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To get these negotiations over the line, the UK and other rich countries need to stop blocking measures to share knowledge and support medicines production in the global south.

Unfortunately, the UK insists we can leave it up to the goodwill of pharma companies to fix the mess they created, which is a bit like trusting a hyena to share its dinner.”
