Responding to calls for billions more in overseas aid to be given by rich countries, Izzie McIntosh, climate campaign manager at Global Justice Now said:

It is crystal clear that the UK government needs to provide more grant – not loan – based support to the global south. It’s not a question of altruism but of justice – we owe this money for the disproportionate role UK money and emissions have played in the climate crisis.

However, just yesterday we learned that this government is double counting aid pledges in a sneaky attempt to evade our climate commitments. This government needs to step up and meet its obligations, rather than fibbing like children playing with monopoly money.”
