Help our supporters raise money in the London Triathlon

Date: 30 July 2009

This weekend a group of brave supporters are taking part in the London Triathlon to help raise money for the World Development Movement.

We’ve put together a guide to the people taking part – and a link to their sponsorship pages.

Kate Etheridge*

I’m attempting my first triathlon on 4 July. Now I can front crawl for more than half a length, and have a bike (and worked out how to pump up the tyres), I’m feeling slightly more confident. So please have faith and sponsor me.

*actually Kate did a Triathlon in July but we’re including her here too!

In August I am going to be doing an Olympic Triathlon (hopefully! If I survive!) which is a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run…. eeeek! I am doing it for the World Development Movement which is totally rad and works on campaigns including climate change, trade and water.

To keep my legs moving when it feels like there is nothing left, please sponsor me by donating to my favourite charity the World Development Movement (WDM).

Call me a mug, but despite the fact I hate running (anyone who’s seen me on the football field will vouch for this), I’ve somehow agreed to do the running leg of the london triathlon on 1 Aug…

As you can hopefully see I have entered into this year’s London Triathlon being held on the first Sunday of August. I’m in the 7am heat if anyone is near a tv!

I am taking part in this year’s  London Triathlon – a 1500m open water swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run. So please dig deep and donate now.

Despite not much training at all, wet-suited and swimming-capped, I will be front crawling 750m through the Thames trying to keep my mouth closed on Saturday 1st August. Then cycling 21k. Then running 5k. Not really that worried about the 5k.

As many of you know, back in March I naively signed up to do the London Triathlon for charity thinking “How hard can it be?” and got a bit of a shock when I did my kilometres to miles conversions, started speaking to people and realised that I wouldn’t be swimming in a nice clean pool but outside in the London Dock, remembered that I hadn’t been on a bike for years and was the only one in school to fail the cycling proficiency test.

Help! am cycling 20km in a Triathlon this weekend – I need to oil my bike, pump up the tyres (which should make it go a bit faster) remove the mudguards (which should make me go super fast) and somehow raise lots of money for charity – if bike maintenance is not your thing you can sponsor me with the justgiving-y thing below.

WDM would like to thank everyone taking part and helping to support us in this way – good luck on Saturday!.
