COP28 Sunak reaction: ‘Self-satisfied flying visit to announce his latest half measures is an insult to the world’

Date: 1 December 2023
Campaigns: Climate

Izzie McIntosh, climate campaign manager at Global Justice Now said:

“The idea that the UK can walk tall at COP28 because of past actions when the whole world is miles off target, and Rishi Sunak’s policies are fuelling the fire, is grotesque. All the lights on the dashboard are flashing red as the plane hurtles towards disaster and pilot Sunak is saying ‘wasn’t the take-off great’.

“The Prime Minister’s self-satisfied flying visit to announce his latest half measures is an insult to the world. The UK will deserve credit when it stops expanding fossil fuels, not the opposite. Before asking for another pat on the back Sunak should cancel his climate-wrecking expansion of fossil fuels, or head home with his tail between his legs.”
