Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now said:

“Ahead of the G20 summit this weekend in New Delhi, concerns remain in opaque discussions behind the UK-India trade deal. The UK Government is continuing to push for a strengthening of intellectual property laws in the pharmaceuticals industry – a move that would fatten Big Pharma’s pockets while driving up the costs of lifesaving medicines.

“This would push medicines out of the hands of those who need it most around the world, and in the UK, drive up costs for the NHS. Health experts have given stark warnings that these proposals will lead to wholly avoidable deaths. It’s time the U.K. government put the NHS and lives across the world ahead of the interests of the pharmaceutical corporations.”
