Secret agribusiness meeting

Secret agribusiness meeting

Mar23

When: March 23, 2015

Our South African allies have notified us that a secret meeting is happening on Monday 23 March where big seed companies are getting together with aid agencies and governments (including the UK government) to plan the takeover of Africa’s seeds.

In solidarity with the resistance to corporate control of seeds in Africa, we are organising a protest outside this meeting. We want to make a statement that our government should not be supporting big business led initiatives to solve agricultural problems. They should be supporting agroecology — a method of sustainable farming which challenges the control of land, seeds, markets and labour by big business.

We plan to protest about the meeting, hand out packets of seeds and demonstrate the need for alternatives to corporate control, such as agroecology. We will also be unveiling an exciting prop which will demonstrate the need for seeds to be free.

We would love you to join us at the protest.

It will start early on Monday 23 March and we expect we’ll be there for about an hour.

If you are interested in joining Global Justice Now, we are meeting outside Pret a Manger at 8.30am on 143 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6RD. We will then move to the protest location.

Hope to see you there!
