Scotland Against TTIP: launch event
When: April 11, 2015
Come to the launch of the Scotland Against TTIP coalition, find out more about how TTIP might impact on Scotland and what you can do to stop it.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Treaty (TTIP) is more than just a trade deal. It is an unprecedented transfer of power from democratically elected governments to trans-national corporations. For the first time, on a grand scale, corporations would be able to sue governments if they make public policy decisions which could harm their profits in the future. And while TTIP threatens to lower standards which currently protect people, public services and the environment, there is little evidence that it will bring the promised benefits of growth and jobs.
But across Scotland, the UK, Europe and the US a movement to oppose TTIP is growing.
Come and hear speakers on TTIP’s impact on the environment, workers’ rights, food and farming, public services and Scotland’s democracy itself. Meet local TTIP campaigners, find out how you can get involved in the movement to stop TTIP and be inspired! Visit stalls and get more information.
Saturday 11th April, 11am – 1pm
This event is organised jointly by Global Justice Now, STUC, Unison, Unite, UCU, USI, PCS, Hope Not Hate Glasgow, Nourish Scotland, Radical Independence Campaign, Friends of the Earth Scotland, RMT, the People’s Assembly, War on Want and Women for Independence.
