Pre-election discussion: what would energy democracy look like?

May06

When: May 6, 2015

The day before the country goes to vote, join Global Justice Reading for a discussion about a vital issue for people interested in real democracy but which has been virtually absent from the election debate: energy democracy.

Corporate control of our energy is a disaster – big energy companies are locking us into fossil fuel dependency, propelling us towards catastrophic climate change. At the same time they make enormous profits while millions of people are left in fuel poverty.

So what is the alternative? Is it possible to have clean and affordable energy under democratic control? And in a changing political climate, what are the prospects for social justice activism at home and globally?

Leading the discussion will be Matt Bramall, a writer and activist from Global Justice Now.
