Loss and damage action day
When: September 22, 2022
Campaigns: Climate
Make polluters pay climate compensation
Most of the 3.6 billion people who are highly vulnerable to climate change live in countries that have contributed the least to it.
Rich countries must pay their share in reparations to countries in the global south who have to carry the cost of ‘loss and damage’. And yet, action is blocked at international meeting after international meeting and global north governments still refuse to pay up. Meanwhile, the UK is extending tax breaks to fossil fuel companies who are making a killing with record profits year on year while the world burns.
A transformative programme for reparations is possible. But to do this, we have to make polluters pay.
On 22 September, we stand in solidarity with social movements and justice campaigners from around the world and call on the UK to make polluters pay.
