Make Polluters Pay day of action

Make Polluters Pay day of action

Sep23

When: September 23, 2023
Campaigns: Climate

On Saturday 23 September we’ll be joining with activists across the UK for a nationwide day of action to Make Polluters Pay.

The greed of oil giants and other corporate polluters is driving climate chaos. Some of the worst offenders are British companies like Shell and BP. We’re calling on the government to make them pay for the loss and damage they are causing.

The Make Polluters Pay coalition is a movement of UK organisations standing together to demand that the UK government pays into a climate loss and damage fund for countries in the global south. Taxing corporate polluters’ obscene profits is the most just way to fund this.

This day of action will be a great opportunity to collaborate with other groups in your local area, as we all stand together to make polluters pay.

You can use this map to add your local actions, and find other people taking action in your area. The map will automatically update across all our partners’ websites. If you don’t know all the details yet – that’s fine! Add it anyway so people know something’s happening, and you can contact us to update it later.

Add your action now!

If you want to join in something local, but can’t be an organiser, then check the map again at a later date, and find out what’s happening near you.If you have any questions, or want to discuss the day of action at all, please contact [email protected]. We’re always happy to chat. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can check out some of our handy guides for taking action. Keep an eye on your emails for more updates over the coming weeks.

Materials

For those of you who want to gain a deeper understanding of the issue in advance, you can read the campaign briefing, or, to go into even more depth, you can check out our report, Making Polluters Pay: Estimates for corporate climate debt and reparations.

For outreach, we have our existing Make Polluters Pay petition flyer, which will be great for getting new people signed up to the campaign. We’re also working on another leaflet which will really explore how corporate power is driving the climate crisis, and start to look more widely at some of the corporations who are especially responsible. More updates on this to come, and you’ll be given a chance to order them in time for the day of action.

We’ll be in touch soon with more information on things like how to take action online. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch with any questions.
