More about the march
The UK Government recently announced plans to licence 100 new oil fields in the North Sea, committing us to decades of climate pollution.
The Scottish Government has failed to condemn plans for Rosebank, the largest undeveloped North Sea oil field.
As Global Justice Now campaigners, we also want the Scottish government to speak out about the need for the UK to exit the Energy Charter Treaty, and to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation treaty – that would ensure a global exit plan for fossil fuels.
We are in a cycle of summertime droughts and wildfires, and winters in which people cannot afford heating. Fossil fuels are the biggest contributor to climate chaos. More oil and gas sold on international markets will not benefit us.
In September as world leaders meet at the United Nations in New York, people on every continent will come together to demand an fast and fair transition away from fossil fuels.
We have the solutions to climate breakdown – we need to put pressure on decision makers to make them happen.
