Having Difficult Conversations About Migration

Having Difficult Conversations About Migration

Jul14

When: July 14, 2018

7 – 9:30 pm, Tuesday 22 May

The Meadows, Edinburgh

After the Scotland Against Trump march in Edinburgh on 14th July, come find Global Justice Now on the Meadows at the Carnival of Resistance http://bit.ly/2KYapIY. Stop by to ask questions, pick up information, find out how to get involved in our work, or just to say hi.

At 2:30, we’ll be running our well-received workshop Having Difficult Conversations About Migration, based on training designed by Hope Not Hate. Feel free to drop by and join in at any point, or stay for the whole workshop.

Designed to help campaigners, activists and communicators, the Difficult Conversations workshop aims to develop strategies to have meaningful, useful conversations about the often controversial and anger-inducing issues surrounding migrant rights.

Do you find that people get defensive, angry, uncomfortable or aggressive when confronted with the truth about anti-immigrant sentiment? Do you feel that people who don’t already agree with you shut down or lash out when you try to address the topic? Come along and explore strategies to minimise conflict, find common ground without compromising your ideals, get your ideas heard, and keep yourself safe when tempers flare.

The workshop will be a relaxed, informal skill-sharing session on what we hope will be a lovely sunny day – we have water and cushions to sit on if needed, and a gazebo to hide in if Scottish summer weather returns. See you there!
