Oxford protest – G7: We Demand a People’s Vaccine

The G7 Health Ministers will be meeting in-person in Oxford on 3-4 June to discuss action in critical areas of global health.
This event will be a protest, as we mourn the damage that has already been done, hear from activist speakers, show the G7 what we believe in, and call for urgent change.
Any DIY placards extremely welcome: text could be ‘We Demand a People’s Vaccine’ or ‘G7: End Vaccine Inequality’ or ‘Drop patents, save lives’ for example. Please wear a mask (unless exempt) and socially distance. Rich countries are hoarding vaccines, while those nations who cannot pay big prices to the pharma companies are suffering.
We ask:
1. Share the technology and know-how!
Big pharma companies must join C-TAP, the World Health Organisation facility set up to share technology, know-how and intellectual property for COVID-19 vaccines and treatments.
2. Suspend the patents!
We call on the UK government to stop blocking global south demands for intellectual property on Covid-19 vaccines and treatments to be suspended. These demands have been put forward by India and South Africa at the WTO to enable the global south to manufacture vast quantities of Covid-19 vaccines to save millions of lives.
The US has agreed to support these demands (BBC News – Covid: US backs waiver on vaccine patents to boost supply) but the UK and other rich countries continue to block the proposal. blocking the proposal.
The G7 leaders must support the intellectual property waiver and sharing know-how through the World Health Organisation. Let’s make sure they hear our voices.
