Elections 2024
Because Global Justice Now is a democratic organisation, members get a say in what we do and how we’re organised in various ways. This includes electing our council every three years, and our latest elections fell in 2024.
Election outcome
At the close of nominations on 2 April, there were 12 valid nominations received for the 12 places on council. Our rules require that certain quotas are met to ensure diversity and representation on council, including a minimum number of local group members. As all these quotas were met from among the 12 candidates, all 12 were deemed appointed without the need for an election.
The new council will take up its responsibilities from after our AGM on 11 June. At its first meeting, members will elect a chair and other officers. The elected council members are as follows:
- Victor Anderson
- Nick Anim
- Sally Brooks
- Ludovico Caminati Engström
- Aisha Dodwell
- Mohammed Elnaiem
- Natalia Guidorzi
- Steven Jackson
- Maggie Mason
- Naveed Somani
- Mary Steiner
- Christine Thompson
Although they will not be needed to help members decide who to vote for, we have made all the candidates’ statements available so you can find out more about the incoming council.
About the council
Our council is the main governing body of the organisation, and is responsible for key decisions between each AGM. All 12 council members are directly elected by the membership, and council then elects from amongst itself a chair, national secretary and treasurer. The chair is responsible for managing the director.
Council meets four times a year, approving organisational strategies and key policies, as well as the annual budget, and seeking to ensure the good health of the organisation. An executive group of council meets more often. Council membership is a voluntary political commitment for which no-one is paid.
