Why I’ve decided to run 52 miles for justice

I wasn’t planning on running two marathons in 2017. But in a few days, before spring has even arrived, I’ll be running my second this year. Why? Well, I’ve got a few reasons. But the main one is that I’ll be raising money for a worthy cause – creating a better world based on humanity, democracy and equality. And that’s how you come into the picture. But first, let me tell you a bit more about why I’ve chosen to embark on such a lengthy and strenuous journey.

Earlier this year my brother, Richard, told me that Global Justice Now was looking for people to run the Brighton Marathon. Seeing as I had already signed up to do the Malta marathon on the 5th of March, he thought I might as well run an extra 42km. You know, to get the most out of all that training. And after all, he said, Global Justice Now would be right up my street.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know about Global Justice Now before Richard told me about them. But after a little bit of research I knew that my brother was right – this was an organisation I really wanted to support. The political landscape is changing rapidly and I believe that we need now more than ever to get together in whatever way we can to support and grow a movement for a better world. Supporting Global Justice Now by raising funds for their campaigns, is one way of doing exactly that.

My aim is to raise £750. This money will help fund Global Justice Now’s campaigns for social and economic justice. More specifically it’ll help ramp up their campaign against divisive and hateful media, such as the Daily Mail, scapegoating migrants and refugees. And it’ll help their work on trade justice, food sovereignty and corporations as well.
